Itheko

(“Gala” in Xhosa. Say “E-the-koh.”)

At Itheko, South Africa Partners’ annual gala, our community of friends come together to celebrate our past accomplishments and learn about our plans for the future. Central to Itheko is our Desmond Tutu Social Justice Award, which honors exemplary individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to social justice, a desire to build unity and movements to overcome traditional divisions and a history of prioritizing the needs of disenfranchised people in South Africa.

The inaugural recipient of the Desmond Tutu Social Justice Award in 2002 was Archbishop Emeritus Desmond M. Tutu.
