Masibumbane Development Organisation

Masibumbane is grounded in a commitment to self-advocacy and social justice. In partnership with others, Masibumbane helps communities to facilitate the mobilization of resources that address local health, education and social development needs.

With the establishment of Masibumbane Development Organisation, South Africa Partners now has a South Africa-based partner – a goal for several years. Working collaboratively, each organization focuses on its core competencies. Our first joint venture is the Community Early Childhood Development Network.

• A central goal of both organizations is for Masibumbane to be an independent and sustainable organization that provides a platform for implementing and managing partnership programs in South Africa.

• Masibumbane is independently governed by a distinguished Board of Directors chaired by Dr. Mvuyo Tom, Vice Chancellor of the University of Fort Hare.

• Incubated with the technical assistance of South Africa Partners, Masibumbane is located in the Province of the Eastern Cape, “Masibumbane” is an isiXhosa word that means “Let us unite to work together.” Masibumbane is focused on empowering underserved and disenfranchised communities to realize their fundamental human rights in a democratic South Africa.

• Masibumbane’s immediate focus is restoring the Province of the Eastern Cape to its historic place as a center of educational excellence. In partnership with South African educators, business leaders and South Africa Partners, Masibumbane will lead efforts in the Eastern Cape to provide professional development for educators and educational access for children, to enable young people to build a bright future and help transform South Africa.
