Guided MFA Tour of 'Made Visible: Contemporary South African Fashion and Identity

South Africa Partners invites you to a guided tour of "Made Visible: Contemporary South African Fashion and Identity", a temporary exhibit at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts (MFA). The exhibit celebrates the identities of South Africans historically denied their rights: Xhosa, Ndebele, and Zulu communities; women of color; members of the LGBTQI community; and rural citizens, among others. Many of the artists featured in the exhibition explore the way that clothing communicates identity, documenting the fashion choices of brave individuals challenging the social norms of their times. Others examine how clothing has been used to create or erase cultural identity, or to enforce class divisions.

The tour will take place Thursday, May 2nd from 4:00-6:00 PM with Kathryn Gunsch, the exhibition curator. Tickets are free but spaces are limited and will be awarded on a first come first serve basis. Please register for the event.
