Rural Inequalities in Water, Food, and Energy: South Africa Partners joins collaboration with NRO and NOW.
We are thrilled to announce our participation in a collaborative project between the South African National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Dutch Research Council (NOW) focusing on inequality in water-energy-food (WEF) security in South Africa and its implications for public health and the consequences of climate change.
About 33% of our population lives in rural areas with limited access to clean water, affordable and clean energy, and balanced nutrition. Climate change exacerbates this. It impacts public health and increases vulnerability to crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. This project examines spatial inequality in WEF, its impact on public health in rural South Africa, and how this will be affected by climate change. The project facilitates integrated future-proof policy design to improve WEF security, public health, and the resilience of vulnerable rural communities.
